Free Assistance for People With Disabilities

When necessary to ensure accessibility, effective communication, and an equal opportunity to participate, Family Guidance Centers provides reasonable modifications and appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge and in a timely manner. These may include:

• Qualified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, including video interpretation, and other qualified interpreters for individuals with disabilities;
• Information in alternate formats, such as large print, accessible electronic formats, audio, or Braille; and
• Reasonable changes to policies, practices, or procedures when needed to avoid disability discrimination, unless the change would fundamentally alter the program or service.

Free Language Assistance

If English is not your primary language, Family Guidance Centers provides language assistance services free of charge and in a timely manner when reasonably necessary to provide meaningful access. Services may include qualified oral interpreters by audio or video through our approved interpretation service and translated electronic or written information. You will not be required to provide or pay for your own interpreter.

How to Request Assistance

Tell any Family Guidance Centers administrative staff member or your therapist what you need. You may request assistance when scheduling, before an appointment, or during an appointment. Advance notice helps us arrange services, but it is not required.

You may contact Family Guidance Centers by mail, phone, or email. If you are reporting a concern, please describe what happened, when and where it happened, and how we may contact you. Assistance is available free of charge if you need to communicate in another language or format.

Family Guidance Centers will review concerns promptly, protect privacy to the extent reasonably possible, and will not retaliate against anyone for requesting assistance, reporting discrimination, or participating in a review. You do not have to contact Family Guidance Centers before filing a complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

File a Civil Rights Complaint With HHS

You may also file a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights. Complaints generally must be filed within 180 days of when you knew that the discrimination occurred. The Office for Civil Rights may extend that period if you can show good cause.
